At the LFS where I work, we received a group of South American puffers (Colomesus asellus). Looking closely at the fish today I noticed one of them was not like the others!
If I was just looking at this photo, I would guess it was a dwarf puffer (Carinotetraodon travancoricus), but it is much bigger than the largest dwarf I've ever seen. For reference, that blur in the background is a 2 inch SAP. This little guy is between 1.5 and 2 inches. I've been scouring the internet for images of other puffers that look like him, but haven't found anything that quite convinces me. I'm fairly certain it is some kind of Carinotetraodon (please correct me if I'm wrong). So far C. imitator is the one I've been able to find the least information about, though I have read a few things suggesting it is slightly larger than C. travancoricus. Anybody got any ideas? Am I missing something obvious? Thanks.

Re: Carinotetraodon (?) ID help
I also saw what seems to be a very large dwarf puffer that looks exactly like the one you're showing.
Kind regards,
Terrance

WARNING: Puffers are mischievous little blimps with enchanting powers. You may not be content with having just one.

Looks like Carinotetraodon travancoricus
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a fish a man, and he'll eat for weeks.

Good if it is a female! 1.5" can carry many eggs lol
Let there be light, and lit up the days... Let there be puffers, and they swam around the world...
