Yea was wondering how much is good flow for them? I can put about 2500-3000 lph+ along the front of a tank, does that sound a little too whirlwind lol. Just purchased 30 kg of base type rock for the tank and a few tubs of milliput, I also have enough styrofoam for a background. Slight change of plan though, the fahaka will be going in the tank with the sump because I want him in more water so the sap/s will be in his. So they all get remodelled homes. I do hope my floor can take all this weight. I also have this real cool plant now, it roots into the styrofoam backing and grows stalks out the top of the tank which grow pointed star sort of shaped leaves. Any ideas what it may be?

My he seems to be eating. Not seen him eat but he has a gut on him now, either that or it's a beer gut and he's been raiding my fridge lol.

I spend a fair bit of time polishing flows in tanks after they are first set up. That is one of the big reasons why I mufti-filter. I rarely have hard figures on the flow in use, as it does get revised periodically, spmetimes reduced, sometimes increased. I watch the fish and plants and fiddle with flow until the fish look "right" and the plants have no dead spots nor are flattened in the flow.

My SAPs always got a good bit of their basically snail diet by hunting, with at least 2/3 of the diet being added during the dark cycle(when they are sleeping) and the rest on alternate day at regular feeding time in the light by me. I still want them to know that goodies are provided by the keeper.

This guy seems to be settling, he is using the whole tank to explore and eating lots of snails. It's a shame I will be moving him and prob upset him again. Still unsure on final home for him and will keep you posted. I also have 2 more on order, the rasporas will be moved on when the new guys arrive. I also have a small spiny eel in there who will be shipped to a different tank. The amano shrimp are still unharmed which surprises me.

funny enough, my tank has the return pipe blasting the front glass so theres bubbles as weell as current so my tank sounds ideal for my saps haha, and evrytime i look they are there!!! i also have an internal filter at back of tank providing a different flow so they have options

Why does the return have bubbles?

One of my peculiarities is that I don't like bubbles in tanks.

Return pipe at the surface may need increased diameter at the release point to avoid bubbles, but if you like such and they are not causing too much salt creep, then that is your call. Partly open-to-the-air return pipes do block back-siphoning in power outages.

good point about the back syphoning, but think my return pipe is too much put the water for the back flow to happen, if that makes sense. i must try it TODAY!!!!! just in case, cheers haha

He has fully settled now, eating well and greeting me. He is now stealing food from the other inhabitants lol. Roll on the others arriving.

Will do, so far he is really placid, just a food thief. He has shown no interest in the amano shrimp unless they have food, not gonna push my luck too far though lol

salfordcol - power-off trials are always a good thing. With my mufti-tank systems they can be critical. Partly air-exposed returns are cheap insurance for me.

bertie - that is pretty good settling-in time. Have you kept Amanos at full FW long-term? I have not and am curious even though I do not have any ATM. The tend to long lives.

Mine are approx 2 yrs old for the older ones and about 1.5 yrs the younger ones. They are mega active.
