Fluval Chi for a DP?

Post by tress29 »

Due to many things, we've decided not to setup a 75 gallon community tank. Unfortunately, the store I bought my driftwood from doesn't allow returns, only exchanges or store credit. While I'm sure I could eventually spend $65 in plants and such, my boys suggested putting it towards a Fluval Chi (available in 5 or 6.6 gallons) or an Ebi (7.9 gallons.) The Chi has a filter that appears to float at the top of the tank, while the Ebi comes with an internal. I didn't know if anyone has used either of these, for DPs or even other fish. I'd like your opinions on the quality/quantity of filtration and suitability for my little guy.

Thanks!

I've heard and seen the Chi's filtration unit is really weak.

When I go to my LFS, the Ebi seems like it has a better filtration unit.

Either way, you may want to upgrade the filtration system.
Kind regards,

If I were you. I'd just get a normal 10g tank & an Aquaclear 20.

I honestly feel that 10 gallons is the minimum for a DP. Mine used to buzz all over a 29 gallon tank. I can't really imagine keeping one in a 5 or 6 gallon. :(

The bigger the better for puffers.

But what wouldn't I give for a Fluval for my shrimpsters. I adore the Fluval line.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

One thing I've always wanted to do with a fluval chi is a mixed nano tank. Maybe something like banded panchax or celestial pearl danios. Could be a good little project to do it up as a planted nano with "nano fish"?
