diboisi puffer

Post by NJD »

Hi,

I didn't want to hijack the other diboisi puffer thread.

I have managed to source one through an importer I know, he's importing directly and it is going to cost £90 (about $110!)

I have seen pictures and it is legit.

I can't find much about them,

Are they particularly active? what sort of size tank?

Are they more single species like the miurus or can be kept in small groups (like schoutedeni also from congo). At the moment only 1 is available but if I push hard they may be able to find more.

Thanks

Please post pictures, T. Duboisi can look very similar to T. Schoutedeni, P. Barbatus, and even P. Abei. $110 for a T. Duboisi is literally unheard of... mine was $800, and the cheapest one I know of was $400. If it is a true T. Duboisi, they grow to about 5 inches. They are more active than other lurkers, and mine doesn't bury in the sand like the T. Miurus or P. Suvatti does, but it still won't constantly hunt the way that ones such as C. Travancoricus will. I keep mine in a 34 gallon so that it's harder for spikes in the water chemistry to occur, but honestly you could probably go as small as a 20 breeder. Lastly, NO tankmates. Even things like plecos will get killed. All in all, the T. Duboisi is very similar to T. Miurus

I wouldn't keep a 5" fish in <30g.

90% of the time I would agree, but with lurkers I feel that a smaller tank will suffice, and I would still put T. Duboisi in that category.

ignoring the fact he is handling the fish which i know is wrong. Let me know what you think. It is coming straight from the congo therefore must be a schoutedeni or a diboisi, looks more like a diboisi due to the shape??

I have found a contact in the congo that actually catches the fish and exports. I have a contact over here that can deal with the import side.

I guess as they are coming direct they are avoiding the wholesaler/retailer high margins.

It is also risk free as the exporter said we don't have to pay until 2 days after the safe arrival and not pay for any DOA!!

Should I stick to 1 diboisi per tank i guess then?

I may also finally get my Miurus Red (for a different tank) for $7 :D

I'll let you know how it goes..

Yes, only 1 fish/tank, or you'll wind up with 2 dead fish.
I WANT A RED CONGO!!!

I don't think so, they're just cheaper when you get directly.
