Greetings!
So happy to have found this forum, great info. I am in the process of getting a pea puffer, setting up a 3 gal. tank and just finished cycling, breeding bladder snails, a mystery snail (training myself to clean tank every 3 days) and 3 RCS. Parameters are per API test strips:
PH: 7.0-7.5
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 0
KH: 80
GH: 180
Temperature: 78F
Heavily planted, fighting a bit of algae at the moment, including peace lily and pothos. Will move the bladder snails to another breeding tank to avoid over-feeding, will get the mystery snail back to her tank, may move the RCS back to their tank as well.
My questions:
- Is my GH going to pose a problem at that level?
- Should I plan on getting meds to de-worm the PP (tank raised and getting him/her from LFS)
TIA

GH is fine but I wouldn't put a single DP in anything <5g. Why no nitrate?
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Re: New PP without a PP
Color of API test strip shows between 0 and 20, but my eyesight is not good enough to see if it is really 20 ppm.
So, not even at 30% water change every two days for a PP in a 3 gal. tank? I will not get it unless I commit to his well-being. LFS said it will be OK when I bought the tank from them.
Thanks so much for the response!

Mine are fairly active swimmers.
Try holding up the tube against a white background, in a bright room.

Re: New PP without a PP
Thank you. I am researching different filtration options and also considering doing a swap and putting the PP in the 6 gal. tank. It is shorter than the 3 gal. by 6 inches but has twice the height. Hopefully this will make him/her a much happier little puffer.
Nitrates closer to 20 ppm.
Everyone looks happy, plants growing well. Thank you again.

Footprint (swiming room ) is important.
