Hello all, I've been browsing the forum for a while now researching a planned Figure Eight Puffer. This week my tank was finally ready, so I got my Figure Eight . However the more I watched my puffer the more I thought it didn't look like a typical Figure Eight, after researching I believe I have a mislabled Ceylon Puffer.
If possible could someone please identify my puffer? Sorry for the poor photos the puffer wasn't very cooperative .

You are correct, that is a Ceylon puffer. Great find! Often mixed in with F8s. Will you keep it?

Re: Hello and possible misidentified puffer
Thanks for the ID and the welcome. I'm not sure if I will keep it, I wasn't really planning on a larger puffer that needs marine conditions when mature; I have no experience with marine aquariums. However I'm reluctant to return it, and it will be difficult to find a good home for it where I live. I'm also quite attached to the little guy .Pufferpunk wrote: ↑Fri Apr 14, 2017 9:40 pm

I do have an empty larger tank (Juwel Rio 180) that I had other plans for, but it's primarily the leap to marine that concerns me.

Even though in the hobby for several decades, I was totally baffled by SW. It was the GSP that got me hooked. It is a slow transition to SW--plenty of time to learn!

Re: Hello and possible misidentified puffer
I've decided i'm going to keep the Ceylon puffer and try to give it a good home. It is currently in a 30"x12"x15" brackish tolerant planted tank with the SG slowly being increased to 1.005 each water change. Would it be ok in this tank for a couple of months while I prepare the Rio 180? It's currently just about 2 inches.
Also ideally I would like to set up the Rio 180 as marine and acclimate my puffer when the tank and it are ready: is this ok? Do I need to wait until it grows to a certain size or is it ok to go full marine at any time?
Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance.
