Accidental sa puffer owner

Post by Pufflesbolt »

 Hi, a friend of mine has to move away due to work... Very short notice.. So now I have become an adoptive aren't of these adorable fish.. Problem is... I've never owned puffers before and want to do the best for them, so any advice and help would be greatly appreciated!
I don't think they're in a big enough tank, there's three, thinking they are very young. The tank looks tiny, I wouldn't even keep my cold water fish in it... I'd say 30L tank. From what I've read I would need a 140 odd L tank, correct me if I'm wrong. Also as far as I'm aware I should be feeding them mainly snails to prevent me having to trim their teeth? I am by no means a fish dentist... Lol. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum, yes they need a larger tank and they should probably get snails daily. You still might need to trim their beaks every so often.

Ok thank you, what size tank do you recommend? I was thinking 125-140l do you think that would be a decent enough size for them? Started a snail tank yesterday so hopefully will have a load of them for every day feed. I've got the stuff needed to do dentistry as well. Do you think occasional shrimp would be as good as as snails?

I don't think shrimp are as crunchy as snails, I'll let someone else answer the tank size question cause I've never had them and I don't know.
