Hello all!

Post by marlana »

Hi, everyone! My name is Marlana. I am 21 and from Oklahoma. My boyfriend Josh and I have had a Green Spotted Puffer for about 3 months now. We named him Kevin, but the name never stuck. He is simply "Puff"! I've been a lurker for awhile but figured it was time to formally introduce myself!

Previous tanks: several freshwater over the years. Been dabbling in saltwater for about a year now. First saltwater tank was a 30g with damsels. Had them for about 6 months, then had an ice storm where we were without power for 10 days. :( I still have the 30g, which now houses my boyfriend's Red Spotted Hawkfish.

A little bit about my tank now: Our 2 inch GSP ("Puff") now lives happily in a 55g full marine tank, fishlessly cycled. When we purchased him, he was in 100% fresh water. We first had him in a 30g, but he definitely needed more swimming room. So we slowly acclimated him to full marine and now he's in the 55g.

He's living with a very docile 2.5 inch gold-banded maroon clown. Other tankmates include 4 large hermit crabs and about 30-40 Nassiruis snails, neither of which he has any interest in. He did show some interest when the hermits were first added but leaves them alone now. He could care less about the saltwater snails, but he won't even let a ramshorn or pond snail hit the ground before it is GONE! So far, nobody is aggressive. We'll see as they age though. I'm prepared to separate any of them if need be! :)

We feed our GSP ramshorn snails, mussels, raw shrimp, and the occasional fiddler crab as a treat. I love him, he is definitely entertaining! I can't wait for us to buy a house so I can have a BIIIGGGG tank with more/different species of puffers. We live in a one bedroom apartment.. its cramped enough with the 55g and 30g, lol. I caught the puffer "bug" :)

Hope this wasn't too long and boring. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Edit: Here is a pic of Puff--

Not too long or boring! You are doing a fantastic job, considering your young age. Actually reminds me of myself...
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Welcome :) I share a 1 bedroom apartment with my SO and we have 3 walls with tanks  I'm lucky though, I have tanks to the right of my desk and to the left.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Welcome!

I also tried with some creative names for my GSP and ended up with "Puff" ;)
