Hello from Chicago
New to the Forum and New to Puffers
Have a baby SAP in a freshwater tank (35 gal)
Have a baby GSP in a brackish tank (15 gal).
The SAP will graduate to either a 55 or 75 gallon tank along with his tank mates and the GSP will inherit the 35 gal tank to himself.

Re: Hello from Chicago
Hello and
I think you might want to consider getting at least 2-3 more South American puffers because they prefer to be in groups, and the bigger the better. Of course, you have to increase the size of the tank if you get more SAP's, but it sounds like you've got that all planned out. They really will be happier in the long run in a small group. A set up with a long swim area and a good current they can swim into is always good. What tank mates do you have in with your SAP's? Planting your tank moderately is a good idea as well.
I'm glad to hear that your juvie GSP will be moving up into a bigger tank eventually and that you're already planning brackish.
Just to ask, did you cycle both your tanks before putting your puffers into them? Also how long have you had the tanks and the puffers?

Re: Hello from Chicago
Regarding the tank mates, I actually have a question open in the freshwater forum that I would LOVE your insight on.pufferpuggirl wrote:Hello and

The GSP is already in a brackish / cycled tank. The 15 gal tank he's in now was a SW tank with fireshrimp(2) and clown fish (2) that moved into a 55 gallon soon-to-be reef tank. We're picking out corals for that one as we see them. We moved about 80% of the SW to the 55 gal tank and half of the sand. We're using the leftover sand, a live rock and filtration in the tank and adjusted the SG down to about 1.010 for the GSP.
The FW tank the SAP is in right now finished its cycle a couple weeks ago. I have two complete filtration systems running on it and a medium-sized fan that gives good current. Please see my post for more and a question: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=24594
Thanks!

I think some of the other members that have good knowledge of saltwater systems might be better to answer your questions than I. I know nothing about saltwater, and do not want to steer you wrong.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Re: Hello from Chicago
Hey there, I live in Franklin Park. Where did you find a SAP?
If you dropped the SG from SW to 1.010, I'm afraid you have killed off all the SW bacteria & you are at square one. Please keep a very close eye on those parameters & post them here.

I didn't know that, I'll check and post it later.Pufferpunk wrote:Hey there, I live in Franklin Park. Where did you find a SAP?

They have the SAPs labeled under Asellus Puffer in a tank with F8 and GSP at Aquarium Adventure/Petland in Bolingbrook (Boughton Rd, right off of i355).

Re: Hello from Chicago
Nice to see some other people from Chi town on here; I don't live there anymore but I grew up in Elmhurst. You'll love your GSP if you don't already - I had one for 8 years and he was easily one of the best pets I had with his personality and all. Once you get him in the bigger tank he should start growing pretty quick.
