Cliff and Hulio send their love

Post by shimmy33 »

Hello Puffas and Pufferettes...My name is Lee,nickname ,Shimmy...

I have been keeping trpoical fish for 10 years plus now,ive had a 5 ft ,60 gallon tank for a few years now which has mainly had community fish... Rosy Barbs,Danios, albino shark, indian roseline shark and 2 angels, plus my two 4inch MBU's which...Will be moving into there 8ft ,180 gallon in the next few days,Cliff and Hulio should be happier for a while all though they get on quite well, they have there little spats when the lights on which is quite strange and when the lights off they seem to find comfort in being side by side..they are a lovely sight when both in tandam swimming up and down the front of the tank,beautys...I also have a 40 gallon tank with a scholl of neon tetras, platys and a few other tetras..

Anyway i hope i can pick up some sound advice from here,,cheers Shimmy

I hope you plan on makeing your liveing room a fish tank for when they get bigger. They require a massive amount of water just for one (the regularly accepted size is 1000gl each.) Welcome to the forum and as allways we love pics of puffers.

I have read that and im more than aware that keeping one is going to be a tough job but im in it for the long run..I took these fish out of a no bigger than a 20 inch,by 10 tank, there were bigger ones in the LFS in similar sized tanks,i have given them something they have already been missing and thats space, they will take a lot more than i have already but im preparing myself...I will say this though, one will more than likely be sold to someone in the know and with the right resourses to mantain a good standard of life for these beautiful fellas,i knew two would be to much for me but for now and the next few months they will be well looked after and pushed ih the right direction untill its time to move one on..

Thanks for the welcome guys

I'd start lining up a buyer for 1 of them, they grow fast! It seems there are way too many mbus being sold in the UK than there are large tanks to house them in... :(

There is 5 x 9 inch MBU's where i sometimes go and they are not in great conditions thats for sure..it is a shame and although i own MBU's i dont actually think any fish that grows to that sort of size should be sold unless there is proof that they will have the tank size required, even then i think theres never going to be enough capacity for the fish to live at its happiest, the same with all fish really,we love everything about them but they dont have the life they could and maybe should have..

I have only seen 1 grown MBU in researching them and it was in an 800 gal.

That is a BIG tank!
