Need advice Fahaka Is sick!

Oh no! Sick fish?! Come here and see if someone can help!

Read this before posting!!

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.

1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.

2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.

3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)

4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.

5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.

We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.

While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.

Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

Need advice Fahaka Is sick!

Post by Dragon76 »

Hello everyone. I’ve been reading here ever since I got my Little Fahaka 3 months ago. I didn’t want this to be my first post here but I need advice.

Everything was fine until about 5 days ago. I went to the grocery store in search of new food, clams mussels etc for my Puffer. I got mussels on the half shell and clams. I cut them up in small pieces for him and he loved it. Next day he was not happy and didn’t want to eat, not as active. I thought maybe he ate to much and his belly was upset. Then I noticed his poop was long/stringy with lumps in the string. He has been pooping this every other day now. I read on here about parasites so I dosed the tank with PraziPro 3 days ago, he is eating but not as active. And his poop is still long and lumpy. I will attach pictures. I just want to make sure I’m on the right track with this medication.

My water is 78 degrees, PH 7.0 Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 He has been eating RamsHorn Snails, Freeze fried krill, blood worms.

Welcome! Sounds like you overfed him. When that happens, poop looks like undigested food. BTW, you cannot treat internal parasites by dosing the water, as FW fish don't drink water. You must treat the food but he doesn't appear to have them. Do you have a side view of him?
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Thanks for the Reply! I’m sure I did feed him to much, he was so full. I’ll see if I can get another picture up. We’re on day 5 now and his poo is still a long string with lump like beads. I started soaking his food with Prazi yesterday. He still has an appetite but He isn’t active like he was before the long stringy poo.

Update on My Fahaka. He is eating good, he is still hiding more than usual. I did a 7 day water treatment with Prazi Pro along with soaking his food in it as well. I just did another 30% WC after treatment. He is eating, mussels, krill, blood worms, rams horn snails. His poo isn’t as long stringy as it was.But it is still stringy, is this normal? Or is it something I need to treat with more meds? I still have the Prazi and I ordered Metro to just have on hand, it will be here tomorrow. Thank You
