So testing API kit again tonight (and having hubby mixing this time) gained the bright read nirtrate reading again of 40-80ppm (can't tell between the reds easily) both out of tap and tank. I had some test strips as well which I know aren't accurate but good for a comparison and readings came out much less on both but around 25ppm baseline for both.

Just really curious as during cycle had the lower end, now at end of cycle both are high.

@gkai - tank is planted, I am planning on adding more both for that and break up lines of sight. I have been doing very frequent water changes since puffs arrived just to ensure tip top shape.

@pufferpunk - good point. I'm going to take both tank and tap water to trusted LFS store to test their kits.

If it is more up to the 40ppm mark out of the tap what on earth do you do for the fishes health?

Hubby checked local water reports and should be between 25ppm-30ppm.

Are you going to report the 80ppm?

You should store a little bit of this water and report it...is confirmed, your distributor is responsible for providing water well outside admissible value...

Sorry not replied sooner our boiler blew up over the weekend so having to deal with this immediate issue. I've ordered a different nitrate kit to see if tests same out of the tap as had issues with the nitrate kit in this API one. If still same of course will report
