Im glad i found this forum. Can anyone tell me what species is this puffer ? is it freshwater or brackish. my uncle keeps insisting that the pet store told him its freshwater but i just couldnt be sure .
its just been chilling at the pump for the last 24 hrs its getting me worried.

Sorry, I did see your pic yesterday but the problem was you posted 2 threads. I thought I responded in 1 of them already but I don't see it now. The puffer is extremely dark (unhappy). How was this tank cycled? I'm moving this to the Hospital Forum, so you can answer all the questions above, in red.

This is day 3 already . the puffer seems to be in a better condition ? its swimming and eating the snails that im giving him for now

As far as cycing is concern i not an expert but i think i did the basic round of cycling , i dont have a test kit to test nitrates level and stuff. tbh i dont think im that equipped for a puffer but im trying my best to make it work .

so basically i think i need help in identifying what sort of puffer is he. i cant seem to match him to any puffer pics i see online and whether he needs brackish water instead of fresh water that his in now

Looks to me to be a Tetraodon sabahensis: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=21998

Unfortunately, if this tank is not cycled, your puffer won't make it for long: library/water-filtration/emergencycycle/
I would buy Tetra Safestart & add it directly to the filter (shake well 1st).

Thanks for the identification. The water should be fully cycle by now transferred some water from my other tank .

How EXACTLY is it cycled? Very little nitrifying bacteria is in the water, it's on surfaces like filter media, substrate, etc.

I dont know how exactly to explain to you because all Ive had previously is just a 1 metre tank with a basic filtration system with ornament fishes. so i have very little knowledge terms like cycling and stuff.

So the tank that the sabahensis is in is a 2 metre tank .

i did check about the cycling part with my LFS after your first post. Told me to transfer half the water from the 1 metre tank and into the 2m tank and let it run for a day.

btw slight update the sabahensis is fine now and is eating proper. Also realised the sabahensis tend to change color according to its surroundings.

Sorry to say, another lFS with extremely poor advise. Your tank is NOT cycled!

@hadla actually i did move substrate over cuz the other tank had too much
