http://www.ratemyfishtank.com/freshwate ... wizard.php This one is really good too for caculating the hardware needed for a particular size tank. I.e., how much gravel, how much filter, etc.

The only things I don't like about that one is the gph calculator (I do 20x , not 6), the lighting is good enough to see only, not to grow plants/macros, the water changes are way too light, and 'inches of fish' is a horrible rule of thumb.
The great thing though is that you can change the multipliers on the right, so you can custom-fit your needs!

Re: Tank Calculators & Conversions
Not sure if this is the place to post this (any mods want to move it to the right place please?).....
I have written a tank volume calculator that I hope some people will find useful. Features are as follows:
Calculates volumes for Standard, Hex, octagonal, corner and bow front tanks.
Calculates approximate weight of water.
Calculates approximate weight of glass.
Temperature convertor.
It can be downloaded from here
Tank Calculator (http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/rick.clark/Downloads.htm)
Any comments, good or bad, are much appreciated. I am also open to suggestions for additions to the program.
Thanks

I usually use this site (since I'm on it every day anyway):

It would be cool if we could add something like that here!

Re: Tank Calculators & Conversions
Especially if you add the prominent warning that tank nominal sizes have no relationship to reality - other than that the reality is always smaller, sometimes a lot smaller.

Re: Tank Calculators & Conversions
Ditto on that ... MFK rate the tank volume at 70% full .....
after measuring the interior of my tank I would guesstimate -40 gallon, then displacement from substrait, structure and falling in and it is a lot less

Re: Tank Calculators & Conversions
Yeah speaking of this, I have always been requesting the tanks dimensions in inches to a seller (particularly on Craigslist) just be safe on its size because I often see 55 gallon tanks being advertized as 100 gallon tanks. If the seller has advertized a 100 gallon tank for sale and they provide the measurements of 48"Hx13"Wx22"H that is NOT a 100 gallon tank! That is the standard size of a rectangular 55 gallon tank! Just a word of caution to anyone looking to buy a tank on Craigslist or thru a private seller.
WARNING: Puffers are mischievous little blimps with enchanting powers. You may not be content with having just one.

Re: Tank Calculators & Conversions
I have measured 55 gallon tank operating volumes at 41 and 42 gallons of water. Both had non-trivial substrtate masses (one was a planted OE-RFUG, the other a FW plenum). That give ~70% nominal to working volume.
For once MFK got something right. I am shocked!

Re: Tank Calculators & Conversions
I really do not use any websites for calculators. I do however like phone apps, since most times when I need to get tank info I am out and about looking at used tank or something to begin with.
I like to use (Android) https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... iumrechner
It also allows you to figure Substrate needed based on tank dimensions!
