D & D H2Ocean Refractometer for a brackish tank
hi, as subject says i purcased a refractometer to use for my f8 tank, hes in fresh water now will be moving to brackish thats why i got a meter,
but when i looked it says the lowist goes to 1.015 and f8 are upto 1.005
have i brought the wrong one or do all refractometer start at this any help would be great.

Yes, you need a full-range refractometer which reads from 1.000 up to and beyond full marine.

Yeah, return it and get one that specifically says it measures from 1.000 and up.

A refractometer is a laboratory or field device for the measurement of an index of refraction.
In veterinary medicine, a refractometer is used to measure the total plasma protein in a blood sample and urine specific gravity.
In drug diagnostics, a refractometer is used to measure the specific gravity in human urine.
In gemology, a refractometer is used to help identify gem materials by measuring their refractive index. In marine aquarium keeping, a refractometer is used to measure the salinity and specific gravity of the water.
In homebrewing, a refractometer is used to measure the specific gravity before fermentation to determine the amount of fermentable sugars which will potentially be converted to alcohol.
I'm not sure which one you bought.

D-D and Vertex are a bit pricey, had both, dropped and broke both over time. I currently use a 'heavy duty' one without any problems.
I see you're in the UK also, here's the one I use on ebay UK... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SALINITY-REFR ... 2a223c9280
