PRIME

Post by Gooburz »

Seen a few things about the product PRIME and some seem to swear by it, has anyone here used it or been using it and what are opnion's on the product? I've heard that Dr. Tims one and only is the best. Is PRIME in the same catagory? Please spam away on this thread and let me know what you guys think/opnion or experieances with the product/'s.

I am also interested in this discussion. My puffer will be living with me in my new apartment, and it will be my first time using h2o conditioner.

As experienced as I am (to some degree a professional aquarist ) it is embarassing to admit that I have no idea how to use a water conditioner. I plan on using a python for h2o changes, should I just add the conditioner to the tank and refill?

Not trying to jack a thread but as long as we are on the topic, I might as well ask. Also interested in which to buy, so Ill be following along with other posts on this thread as well.

Prime is what we all use here, it's amazing, if using a python you add the prime to the tank, it locks ammonia up in cycling tanks but leaves it as food for bacteria, not a reason to fish in cycle but handy info to have.

Bertie is this a product you'd use for every water change then? I did purchase the product and used it when i initially set up my tank, I went off reviews i've read on it and am glad that people here use it and like it.

Prime & Dr Tim's are 2 totally different products. Prime is a dechlorinator & also detoxifies ammonia/nitrite, added before filling fresh water for your weekly WC. Dr Tim's is a live nitritrifying bacteria, added 1x, to cycle the tank.

Prime is good stuff. As PP said it detoxifies ammonia and nitrite instead of outright destroying it like Amquel. Good to have in case of a tank crash.

I use Prime and love it. It's pretty critical for my tank care because I have ammonia in my tap water.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Prime doesn't cycle the aquarium though, so don't add any fish unless it's been fully cycled.

+ 1 it's essentially a dechlorinator that provides a little safety net if your tap water isn't great. It doesn't tint your water slightly like some other brands either. If you want crystal clear water, use prime along with regular changes, it looks like my fish are floating in air lol

Seachem's Prime is and has been for years the only conditioner I use. So far as I am concerned, it is the best and safest available.

I buy Prime by the gallon. Each gallon last me several months.
