If at all possible, I'd change out that substrate to sugar-sized sand & don't touch it. Lots of beneficial creatures live in live sand. Leopard wrasses like to burrow in it but CC may cut their delicate skin.

NO! An RO/DI water system removes all nutrients, minerals, and vitamins... most of which are essential for marine life. Doing so would crash your system.DarkStorm wrote:leopard has a unique way for sure of burying self damage himself no.. he kinda puts it in reverse flicks his fins and creats a cloud then lies down and sand falls on him ill try and get a video of it someday..

It would also remove ALL of your salt from your water, and I don't think i have to explain the importance of salt in a saltwater tank.

LOL! I agree w/GSPFreak. That would be a fast trip down the drain.
In theory, removed tank water could be reprocessed, but it would be far more costly than processing tap water and hard on the membrane (cutting lifespan much shorter).

I still feel you are asking for nitrate issues with CC in the substrate. Now is your nitrate?
