All of my tanks...

Post by frenchie »

So I haven't been to the forum for a while, but it's mosty because I've been working on this tank(29g):

this is my only non puffer tank

I still have my f8 tank(29g):

and my dwarf got moved bedside to a 5gallon recently:

To think I started with a 10gallon a couple of years ago. Hopefully this doesn't backfire too bad when I graduate in may and have to find a job somewhere that will require a move...

...Wow.

Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Beautifull tanks. Looking at a rock just like that for my F8 tank.

Also in a similar situation, My mom might be getting a job almost 3 states away.

Thanks everyone,

The rock is actually fake, and hollow inside so it has more places to explore. I got mine at petsmart.

I'm pretty sure hollow ornaments can be fatal in fish tanks as gas pockets go inside and can't get out. I'd look into it, just to be positive it was safe if I were you.

It is. I flip my stump over completely under water to get out any airbubbles at every water change, just to be safe.

i avoid hollow decorations for a different reason. they turn fatal for all my clown loaches. you don't know how many times i've had to shake a clown loach out that thought it was still small enough to get up inside one of those.... grrrrrr

thanks for the concern guys, I make sure the rock gets completely full with water and rotate it once a month. A also pull water out of it when I do my water changes. No problems so far, and all the fish seem to love swimming through it.

Yes, I think that if the fish can swim through the holes, there's definitely enough water movement to prevent anaerobic gas buildup.

If we're talking about the rock with the holes in it, wouldn't just removing it from the tank while cleaning undo any gas pockets? I have a piece of Texas Holy rock and its FULL of holes! I just remove it when I do a cleaning. Never thought about gas pockets.

Figured I'd give an update, it's been a while. All of the fish are doing well minus losing one of the mollies in the f8 tank.

When I rescaped, I took some of the extra plants and added them to the other tanks to see if they would do well. The chromides destroyed the plants in the brackish but the plants in the dwarf puffer tank seem to be doing well.

My real project has been with my planted tank. I have read some articles about heavily planted non-c02 plant tanks and no water changes. My understanding is that the theory is the fish provide enough fertilizers for the slow growth of the plants. Water changes reintroduce c02 into the water and confuse the plants. I'm still skeptical but it has been 6 1/2 weeks without a water change and the water parameters are still the same. :D

Here are some updated pics of that tank. The first two are before the rescape and the last one is after.
