Method of feeding Snails to Dwarf Puffers

Post by Glokta »

Since I got my Dwarf Puffers I’ve been breeding snails but struggle with getting them out of my snail tank. If I use a snail trap, the large adults either block the door or fill it up, and I don’t get enough eye sized snails in. If I use my hands I risk either dropping them or crushing them, so I’ve hit upon this method which works for me. In my snail tank I put two large clumps of vegetation with lots of hair algae in it. The baby snails - and some adults, climb into it to eat the algae. Each week I take a clump out of the tank, stick it on a bbq skewer and place it in the puffer tank. The puffs (and a pair of German Blue Rams) spend hours scouring it for the snails, everyone gets a good feed, even the smallest, Baby Puff. It’s easy and gives them lots of enjoyment and occupation!

A piece of zucchini rubber-banded to a rock works well, too.
