Advice on supermarket clams and mussels

Post by olliesworld »

Ollie (Fahaka Puffer) is now around ten inches long and living happily in his 300 gallon tank. I feed him everything recommended and always freeze then thaw the fresh live clams and mussels from the seafood counter at our supermarket before feeding them to him.

My question is: do these items that are destined for human consumption actually have parasites? ewwww if so!
I guess we would be cooking them before eating right?

I was just wondering if some of the freshwater clams could actually live in the sand in the tank. Too dangerous?

Thanks and don't worry- I am keeping up with the freezing- just curious!

Thank you to PufferPunk and other members for your help and advice in raising this little buddy. :)

You can freeze them before soaking in tepid vitamin-enriched water. Do NOT cook!
How are you able to post pics here?
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...
