New Figure 8 Puffer Tank

Post by Zoe.G »

Hello,
I am planning to converting my 36 gallon bow front freshwater tank into a f8 puffer Brackish tank.
I have a few questions though.

How slowly do I need to increase the SG of the water to get it to where I want it to be. (Tank is fully cycled so I don't want to destroy the bacteria by doing it too fast.)
Also when mixing the salt water how long do you let it mix for before adding it to the tank?

Also I was just going to put 2 figure 8's on the tank and two bubble bee gobies, with ALOT of decor to keep them busy, but the girl at the pet store said she has had more luck with 3 figure 8's instead of two in tanks. Her reasoning is that it reduces aggression is this true?

I know they can be quite aggressive, so I am just curious would you put 3 f8 puffers in a 36 gallon or just one or two puffers?

Also When you feed them Rams Horn snails do you just feed them one snail twice a day or just once a day?

Also do you breed shrimp for them as well? if so which ones?

Thanks

It can be true that 3 fish are better than 2, because it disburses aggression between 3 fish instead of 2, where there would be only 1 aggressor & 1 being chased.

As far as raising the SG, make sure the tank is stable (0 ammonia/nitrite, nitrate <20) for at least a month, & then you can raise the SG .001-2/week.

Also is it okay to use gravel as the substrate for a Figure 8 puffer?

Also would you put 3 f8's in a 36 gallon with 2 bumble bee gobies?

LOL, you didn't read the article on them, did you? No, aragonite sand
d is recommended. Yes, you can keep 3 F8s in that tank but no other fish.

Sorry ,
So much information to soak in.
If i did not use argonite sand what would be the consequences?
Reason being I have it full with gravel, and I would prefer to not switch it out, but what would be the costs in doing so?
Of course I will do what I need to for them, but just asking.:)
