Tetraodon schoutedeni Water Parameters

Post by Smitty23 »

Hey, guys new to the site. I have a couple puffers. Fahaka and my newly aquired spotted Congo puffer. Just wondering if anyone knows the absolute best water parameters for it.

[welcome]
Freshwater, 0 ammonia/nitrite, <20 nitrate. We recommend 50% weekly water changes.

Already do that on all of my tanks. There's just nothing on the web about them.

I was wondering about precise temp, what kind of hiding places they like, and stuff of that nature. There's nothing online anywhere about info wise about them. If anyone out there can help I'd appreciate it. It's not like most fish where I do a little reading, and provide their best possible needs.

It seems that after 30 years, these fish are finally coming the the US market, so more of us here will be able to post more info on them.

I'm confused. Congos aren't the same as mirius puffs? They're one of the red eye species?

There are 2 puffers with the common name of Congo. The puffer referred to in this thread is the Spotted Congo & that proper name should be used to avoid confusion. ;)

Temp. 72* - 79*

That's about all I could come up with too. I appreciate you searching. There's really nothing out there yet. I'm honestly thinking of getting rid of my south American chiclids in my 200 gallon, and giving breeding these guys a shot.

I'd have to get rid of my 3 Oscars, my electric blue jd, 3 silver dollars, a Goldie pleco, and green mango pleco, though. This would be the starting point. I think I can find the Spotted Congos for around 125 or so now. I would just like to get a couple to breed to make these guys available in the states easier.

They are supposedly from larger rivers and I read that they lay eggs on plants. Mine loves exploring plants so I recommend densely planted.

I haven't found anything different than listed above. Info is sparse.

If you get a group of them and work on breeding, please post updates!
