Snail shells in aquarium?

Post by dzarren »

I feed my Red Eye Red Tailed Female puffer pond snails some times.
Probably around 1 time a week, perhaps 3 snails each feeding.

Obviously she does not consume the shells.

Is it alright to leave these shells, and shell remnants in the tank?

I think of it as calcium, and they eventually dissolve into the water column it seems.

is this detrimental to the water quality?

It is hard to be able to retrieve the shell fragments. As unsightly as they are.

I just tend to use a long chopstick and push them into the substrate, i tell myself it'll help the plants or something.

if this is a bad idea, or if i should really be removing the shells, please let me know, and also why?

Will it decompose into nitrate?

thanks for reading!!!!

No problem leaving them.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...
