Why are they so cute?

Post by DMD123 »

So I was bored over the weekend and stopped in a fish store that also deals with saltwater fish and what do I see? The cutest little porcupine puffer. It came out of hiding when it saw me and followed my finger around the glass. I was almost ready to drain my 210g freshwater and go salt. So tempted. LOL

Yep, I'm the same when I see porkys lol like I posted before, they're only cute and cuddly on the outside, on the inside they're plotting eeeeveeel!
Yup they want you to take them home so they can use their mind control on you

I dont know how I ended up finding some awful story of a diver who had the tip of his finger bit off while diving. Apparently a porcupine puffer came out of a crevice in the rocks and got him. He was kind of embarrassed that it happened and that it was done by a puffer. People really underestimate these evil little geniuses.

I have the same problem! Recently saw a 3" porc and fell in love! But here in South Africa salt is just too expensive for a big tank.

SW is never cheap, but if you go FOWLR + a good skimmer and a 24/7 lighted macroalgae refugium, it is much lower operating costs than lifetime weekly water partials. The marked reduction in water partials means much lower overall lifetime costs with actually better water conditions. As puffers are fairly long-lived fish, total lifetime costs do matter a lot. Water quality in such set-ups is actually better than we can do in FW or BW.

Here is that story of the evil porcupine puffer who bit off the divers finger.
http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/marine ... inger.html
After reading how he used to handle the wildlife and would 'captured a puffer to let it blow up for the crowd', I think he deserved to be bit! :D

I thought porcupine puffers had 2 crushing plates rather than a sharpe beak/teeth.
