Hi. I have difficulty to find normal pond snails to feed 2 of my GSP. Can I substitute pond snail with feeder shrimp.? Can shrimp shell able to trim their teeth.? My LFS always hav stock for Malaysia trumpet snail but I did their shell too hard for my GSPs.

shrimp shells are no good. Too soft.

would you consider a 5 gal breeding tank got ramshorns or pond snails?

crayfish are also a good choice, but on the large side for GSPs

My puffers are not that big ard 2.5-3inches long. Feed ramshorn before but didn't really see my puffer crushing the shell. Guess was too hard for them as well. Used to hav a breeding tank for pond snails had no luck with it and all the snails die off. :(

Shrimps are good to add to the diet if you have fed them well for a while, you can get all sorts of goodness into your puffer through shrimp. As stated above not enough crunch, try partly crushing the snails, the puffer will still grind his teeth on the shells and the puffer learns that they are good to eat.

Get those smaller muscles & crack them open for your puffers. They will scrape their teeth on the shell to get the meat out.
