Transporting Puffers and tankmates internationally?
Hi all...I have decided to move back to America with my boyfriend (since that is where he is from and I am South African). However...I have fallen in love with my little cuties (Tsuki, Fig and Paku - f8 puffers). The move will only occur in a year after my teaching contract is up here in SA but I wanted to start investigating whether or not I can take my puffs with me from SA to Chicago. Would you recommend keeping them with me and risking the move or should I try find someone here that will take care of them as well as they deserve and need? I am concerned though because the amount of puffers I see at the fish stores are minimal, and if I give them away to someone who doesn't know enough about caring for them, I am worried they will die!

You'd be better off rehoming them , a journey like that will not only cost but would be very stressful if not fatal for your dearly beloved puffers . You can always start a fresh when you move .

yea...it's about a 24 hour travel with stops and whatnot. I do unfortunately think they will not last, and if they do endure the trip, may suffer afterwards. /sigh...

I shipped 2 fahaka puffers to Singapore. 50 hour trip. Then again, Polish Puff drove a puffer to FL (I think) & it didn't make it. If I were you, the best thing for them would be to find good homes & then set up again with new puffs when you are settled.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Why not sent them courier?
An insulated box, double bagged a little water and a touch of MS-222 should do the trick. Labeling would be critical though.
