I was at my LWM and it still had GSP's for sale in it's fish dept. I hope they stop selling them! Everytime I go into that place I ask my girl if we can check them out even though I know they're gonna be in bad shape. I mention something to the person who is running the fish dept. about how to care for them and questions that should be asked when someone is buying one. I love WM but they have no business selling fish.

I hate that they sell them, but I might have to rescue one for my tank. At least the GSP's are taken care of at my LFS, but they are NOT taken care of at all at Walmart. If I can get one out of a bad situation and give him a loving home, at least I made a difference in one little fish's world...

Support your caring LFS, If you buy from walmart, they will keep selling them. And 99% of them will not go to loving homes. If people stop buying them, they will have no reason to stock them, and then all the fish they no longer sell will have a better chance.

ha, thanks for the link!

Name Comments
1937. Heather D at least stop selling Green Spotted Puffers! They cannot live in anything less than 40 gallons and do not eat live fish or flakes! They need full saltwater and snails and live worms!

You've got it backwards. Why would you give $$$ to a place that ignores their welfare & not support the folks who care about their well-being?

+1 to above...

The best way to save the puffer babies is not buying and or recommending this kind of shops at all...

If you buy a puffer in this kind of stores, you may be saving one puffer, but you damn another 100, cuz as long as they sell, thy will bring more... remember that corporations are horrible vicious circles, thats the system...

The only way to save this puffers is not buying any one, no matter how bad or happy you feel when you see them... u_u
Let there be light, and lit up the days... Let there be puffers, and they swam around the world...

Yeah, i realized that after 7 said something. I signed the petition, and made the comment that if they can't take care of them properly, they need to stop selling them. It's just that the little puffs at WalMart break my heart = / cause I know they are doomed to a short, unhappy life.

just from a retail stand point:

The department manager will take in the shipment, look ant the stock, and look at the sales levels. From there he / she will make a claim with head office as to how much money the store has just lost. They don't get charged for that loss. That is upon arrival. Anything over and above that estimation is pure profit for the store. Anything below that and they adjust the numbers and if it is not worth carrying that "product" they delete it from their line. Each store is different, each manager is different.

If you want to save them, don't buy them.
if you follow me, you avoid stepping in the crap that I just did...
