I know, it's very sad :( Sometimes is so hard not to let your heart rule.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

I saved two GSP's from WM...and I mean SAVED THEM!! The only reason I got them there was because my WM was being remodled and the fish that were still there by the following day were being flushed. O broke my heart to leave the others behind knowing what was coming to them. Wally and Marty are two very happy and very lucky little puffs. Had I not walked back there that night they would be dead. Had they verb bought by someone else they would probably be dead...they were I horrible shape. I was originally going to get them healthy and rehome them but I can't bring myself to do it, I love them too much.

Oh, for sure. I wouldn't have ever bought from three under any other circumstances.

Stopped by Walmart across town, which is the only of the 2 that sell fish, and they didn't have any puffers. Not even an empty tank or a tag for them. Made me happy, for sure.

Ps. As i'm writing this my girlfriend's dog is laying on the bed beside me barking in her sleep. hah

Probably not many.. I saw the remnants of a 4 inch pleco in one tank that was ONLY a skull and backbone. It had obviously been in there long enough for the "chinese algae eaters" to completely pick it clean.
