Do your puffs get jealous of eachother?

Post by sparks42 »

So my bigger GSP Chomper, I always play with him, play tag and peekaboo and stuff.
And then the smaller GSP Little One, I never play with him.
If I give Little One my sole attention, Chomper will attack him like "Hey, she only plays with ME dont get in my way!!!" Like Chomper is dominant over.... me?

Anyone else have the same type of thing going on? I just feel bad for Little One cuz he doesn't get the attention Chomper does. I will probably have to give Little One away at some point.... I think Chomps just wants his own tank now.

Just wanted to share cuz I think it's cute that Chomper is totally not cool with me playing with Little One lol. He wants all the attention to himself ;)

Correction!!!

Chomper wants the attention of the big harry thing that brings shrimp & food & treats. Chomper does not want little one to gain an inside track with the big harry thing.

Chomper is totally playing the big harry thing, because Chomper is smart and he knows that the big harry thing will anthropomorphize his behavior.

But in reality, Chomper has his pet, the big harry thing, on a tight leash. The big harry thing has been successfully trained to properly feed Chomper what he wants when he wants. In addition, the big harry thing has passed the test of potty training...the big harry thing is now on a schedule to clean up Chomper's poop. The big harry thing is such a well trained pet, that any day now Chomper will have the tank all to himself!

Well done Chomper!!!!!

Since some of my tanks are close to each other, if I stop to look at, or talk to, another puffer, I will see some of the other puffers up at the glass -- as if to say, "hey, we're here, give us some attention too, and if you've got food, we'd like some of that as well!" :)

(I loved that analogy you put forth purple, very well done! )

Compared to a fish you're pretty darn big and hairy.
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Speaking of big and hairy, I've got a rather big dog, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, and I'm often amazed that my puffers don't freak out when she goes up the glass and looks at the puffers. Especially BeeBoo because his tank is just a bit off the floor, and the dogs can easily eye up what's in the tanks, yet none of my puffers seems bothered by the dogs (okay, with the exception of Obie, who seems to be getting worse).

Anyone else's puffers seem bothered by your other pets? I know that some of you will say possibly your cats, but that's because cats will actively go after fish, whereas most dogs will not. Just curious if anyone else gets any reactions?

My SAPs hate everything!

Maybe coming from the amazon they are naturally paranoid, or that they have been O2 deprived in the shipment to Canada .. I have no idea..

Oh, my. Sparks42 is so well trained, she does not even know she is the big harry thing! Hats off to Chomper..."the people whisperer". I know some bad pet owner's (fish who cannot keep their humans in line). They (the humans) won't do water changes and so on. Perhaps Chomper could teach these fish how to handle their humans? Self-help seminars or lectures?

Chomper is definitely talented, Sparks you are so lucky to have such a nice, intelligent owner.

Bloat loves to follow my kid around when he walks up and slaps the side of the tank. Bloat has a look like he's sayin your lucky there is glass between me and you
