One thing you don't want to hear...

Post by Pufferpunk »

... when doing water changes: "Honey, your fish are flopping!"

Luckily, they're fine, no thanks to the fact I was doing FW water changes, cleaning my reef tanks, talking on the net, answering a Hotline & selling corals to a fellow who stopped by. Just a little distracted... :goober:
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Yeah, he also lets me know when they're overflowing. How come he can't tell me about these things before they happen???

PP it seems that most of your mishaps happen dureing water changes. lol Im sure once i get more tanks alot will start to happen to me i think i am the most easily distracted person on the planet. You have no idea how many times i have let the sink overflow when makeing dishwater or burning bread in the oven lol.

I almost did that once. Thankfully, the fish had all found nice little pockets in the gravel with enough water to stay submerged. Now, overflowing buckets - that's another story. Lots of stories.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

I've over flowed a tank or two, never sucked one dry though. Around my big tanks I've went so far as to put up a barier, seal the floor with polyurthane, and drill drain holes around them. I'm always terrified of them flooding the whole house.

I've drained a tank a few times. But I've flooded the floor lots of times. I am also multitasking a lot when doing water changes. Or rather, I was multitasking a lot. After I stopped doing everything else at the same time as my water changes, I've almost stopped flooding the house - but only almost...

I haven't flooded anything - yet. Almost a few times, but seemed to catch it before it made too much of a mess!
My bf flooded the laundry sink one time while using the python, filled up the sink and we wondered why would couldn't hear water draining anymore... lol

I confess that I've done the idiotic "Hey, This Canister Filter Isn't Flowing Right, I Should Take the Top Off and Look at the Impeller" thing more than once. Without unplugging it. SIGH.

At least he's attentive.

I came home the other day to a floating skimmer and my pump making the most disgusting grinding noise from running dry. No, the wife didn't notice, or didn't know what to do, and didn't tell me.

Don't you love how everything needs to be done all at the exact same moment?

So far the worst I've done is dump water down my shirt as I was doing a water change and trying to get my daughter to stop doing something she wasn't supposed to and wasn't paying enough attention to where I was aiming the water.

haha.. speaking of pouring water all over yourself...

My bf and I went to pick-up some free crayfish yesterday, and as we turned a corner I noticed that one of the containers had been tipped over and all the water had leaked out, so I frantically grabbed the other container to get the poor little guy in some water, and low and behold I pour half the container of water all over my lap.. causing it to look like I've pee'd myself. lmao.. needless to say I did not go into the groccery store!
