Commonly used Acronyms & Abbreviations
Please feel free to add to this list!
FW - Fresh water
BW - Brackish water
SW - Salt water
LFS - Local Fish Store
NH3 - Ammonia
NO2 - Nitrite
NO3 - Nitrate
SG - Specific Gravity
O2 - Oxygen
CO2 - Carbon Dioxide
HOB - Hang on back filter
UG - Undergravel filter
RFUG - Reverse flow undergravel filter

NO - Normal Output Flourescent light
CF - Compact Flourescent light
ODNO - Overdriven Normal Output Flourescent Light
MH - Metal Hallide light
LR - Live Rock
FOWLR - Fish Only, With Live Rock
FO - Fish Only

Other possibly confusing terms:
Partials - The partial amount of total tank volume changed. EG: "50% weekly partials."
Conspecifics - Other individuals of the same species. EG: "Fahakas are very aggressive toward conspecifics."
Nitrification - This is the metabolic process performed by your benefitial bacteria, aka the nitrifying bacteria, which convert toxic wastes (ammonia) into less toxic subtances (nitrates, via conversion to nitrites).
Cycling - This is the process of establishing a colony of nitrifying bacteria in a brand new tank. See also BioSpira and/or "fishless cycling".

I am brand spankin' new to the puffer world (I have to learn quickly as I will have a puffer coming to live w/ us in about a week). My dtr and I were reading posts and saw a bunch of initials, I think they were identifying each type of puffer. Can you help us w/ that???? SAP was one of the accronyms. HELP
