Everybody overfeeds puffers initially. They train us too well.

Lol, very true. Hard to resist such a cute face, especially when they smile at you.

My GSP is about 2 1/4" now, I actually measured the food I've been feeding him since I got things balanced, he's eating about 500mg of shrimp or bloodworms a day, a little more if it's snails...these guys spend a lot of energy for critters that so very little.

I've also noticed that snails run through them faster, seems like the undigestable shells keep them regular but I can't be sure.

Sails are quite easy to digest, if you are a fish. The way people eat them (loaded with butter and garlic) it is a bit heavier.

Is it true that puffers grow mostly when they are juveniles? And if so, should we be feeding them more than every other day?

I think you're supposed to feed them every day till they're about four inches, then every other day. I've been feeding mine daily, but only a slice of shrimp the size of half a tylenol and few snails here and there, it's about 2 3/4 inches...funny thing is when I get the shrimp to the cutting board it starts thrashing in the only corner of the tank that can see the cutting board in the next room.

Feeding really depends on the individual puffer, you have to use your common sense. Whilst very small it's daily, most puffers will eat until they are about to burst but this is very bad. It really is too easy to overfeed

Puffers grow fastest pre-puberty. Growth slows post-puberty. Fully mature puffers )and other fish as well) continue growing very slowly throughout their lives.

Feeding puffers to a grossly distended regularly and frequently is unhealthy and will shorten their lives.

I only make sure mine eat once per day. Nothing more than that. Just to make sure their diet is correct.

Be sure to skip one day/week.

yea i don't feed my green spotted puffer daily. i feed him/her every other day to allow for digestion or every 2 days at most every 3 days. i just fed him/her today 2 small snails and he looks bloated already. but damn overfeeding them till their seems break that is just nasty and wrong. We i do feed it is eager to eat as well and comes to the surface trying to get the snail/food out of my hand until i let it go then it just destroys the food.
