Maybe it's my screen, but your original avatar didn't look like it needed anything anyway.
I'm sorry this program didn't work for you. I put in some suggestions for larger files, but I have no way of trouble shooting since my photos aren't anything that large to begin with :( :(
It didn't, but I wanted to get my Fahaka on there. I think he's the hardest of my puffers to photograph lol.

You also have a more generous file size allowance, I checked.

What do you mean, more than 6kb? Last night when I tried a picture at 8kb it wouldn't allow it.

Did you try resizing the whole picture first, and then lowering the DPI? I wish I could help more, but like I said, I guess my pictures aren't that large.

I didnt read this whole thing, but I load my pics up on photobucket and just change the upload size to avatar, it makes it the right size, and then I just download the pic back to my comp in the smaller size and it uploads no problem

This apparently doesn't work for really large files still. I've tried it a few times and it didn't change the file size enough. That was the first way I tried to get an avatar to work, so when it didn't, I looked up a free program that could do that, that's how I found Irfanview.
Again, I know there are many ways to do this, but this is just something that has worked for me. Photobucket may work for some files, but it didn't work for me. I'm just trying to be helpful, I know there are other or perhaps better ways to do this. I'm really hoping that the extra sub-step will solve the problem for the really large files :/

I just wanted to let you know that I troubleshooted a file that was 4.08 MB, and I got the avatar size saved at under 6 KB, and I added a sub-step for larger files. Let me know if anyone with a really large file is still having trouble.

Also, hopefully someone with a mac can help out the users who have macs and are having avatar/photo issues!
