Puffer chirping

Post by lightsout »

So one of the first things I noticed about my puffer when it was first settling in was that it would chirp every once in awhile. As the days went on I could hear him chirp atleast once a day. So today I was able to get it on video, unfortunately he's not that close to the camera but you can still hear it. He does it 3 times in this video. Is that fairly common with puffers?

All I can hear is the sound of the water.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Maybe I don't know what I'm listening for. I did hear a high pitched sound, I think.

"Olivia" (congo puffer) makes "chirp" noises that sound like short bursts of "nails on a blackboard"
"scritch, scritch"
is that what you mean?

I hear water sounds and a funny knocking sound near the end of the video. Perhaps the knocking=chirping?

Pretty fish in any case ^_^

Couldn't hear it either, I'm afraid
Could it be a little whistle as he blows water/air through his teeth?

Nope he makes that noise everyday. Best way is to have the video in HD and turn the volume all the way up. The first chirp is very feint the second and third are noticeable, watch the puffers mouth as he makes the noise.
