Thought I'd share with you all some pics that were taken by my research assistant during my stay on the Great Barrier Reef. I was there for a whole month and saw many puffs throughout that time, as well as many other fish varieties.
Images are of a mimic filefish alongside a saddled toby (Canthigaster valentini) (which it mimics in appearance). The second image shows the identifying features of the mimic filefish; it's dorsal fin and spine (folded down), which are absent in the saddled toby.
The other image is of an ambon toby (Canthigaster amboinensis), which had brilliantly bright colours.
I also saw many other marine puffers on the reef (which I failed to take pictures of) including: humongous star puffers (Arothron stellatus), guineafowl puffer (Arothron meleagris) and many pairs of compressed toby (Canthigaster compressa).
