My GSP, Sheldon

First, hello! New to the board. Been lurking a bit, since getting Sheldon, but wanted to finally say hi!

I did not plan to get a puffer, but saw this pitiful little guy at Walmart (I know, I know - should just stamp "sucker" across my forehead) and couldn't leave him there. I wish I would have thought to get a picture of him then because he looks quite a bit better now. He was dark and mostly brownish, sunken eyes, surely had IPs. He still looks a little skinny compared to the chubby GSPs I've seen online, but he is growing and fattening up a bit.

This is after a snail or two, and he's hoping to find more. :)

Congratz on the new gsp! From the marimo ball in the back it looks like you have him in freshwater. This species needs brackish water (in between fresh and salt water) to live, and can thrive in full salt water. Please read up on the GSP articles in the library. If you have any questions after you have read through the article feel free to ask any questions.

I could have sworn I posted a reply a few days ago! Oops!

Anyway, I am slowly transitioning to brackish water. I just received my refractometer, and my hydrometer was way off (which I suspected) so I am good to go now to increase by about .002 a week.

I had tossed the marimo in just to add some things to the tank. He kind of got leftover decorations from my other tanks until I could get his tank decorated the way I wanted. He recently got some nice, new silk plants and I have some rocks coming to add as well.

I've also been breeding pond and ramshorn snails for him for about a month. Is it okay if his diet is mainly snails with other foods added here and there just for variety? I've read varying advice on how often it's okay to feed snails. He loves them, and I certainly have plenty! lol

Did you calibrate your refractometer?
