What camera are you using on which settings? I can't get clear macro shots to save my life!

This pictures were cropped, to zoom in on him.
Camera: Nikon D7000
Lens: 18-105 mm (I used 105mm)
1st and 3rd picture: f/5.6 and shutter 1/250 sec, ISO: 100
2nd picture: f/11 and 1/250 sec, ISO: 100
I used very low power flash so it wouldn't over expose or bounce off the glass.
PP the trick is to take lots of pictures and you will get some nice ones. Delete the rest.

I am a diver & underwater photographer. Pretty good at it! But I can't for the life of me, take macro pics of my tank!

It almost looks like he has a little mustache, with the black coloration around his mouth 8D
