Re: GSP Chomper is he yawning ?
He's about 4 now, only 3 inches, just a super close up
Here's the thing about yawns....
In humans, we yawn to get air. Fish don't inhale air via mouth, so i seriously don't understand what he is doing, if he is yawning or what.

My GSP does that also, and I've wondered the same thing! I thought maybe it was just stretching. If anyone else has any insight on this, I'd like to know too.

I've always said, "Awwww, he just yawned!" Or, "Sorry I'm so boring." I've never considered that it might not be yawning, even though I know why mammals yawn.

Not just mammals, my spotted salamander used to yawn all the time.sevenyearnight wrote:I've always said, "Awwww, he just yawned!" Or, "Sorry I'm so boring." I've never considered that it might not be yawning, even though I know why mammals yawn.

Re: GSP Chomper is he yawning ?
My Fahaka does this and some previous puffers i've had did it as well. Generally it happens if im a bit too close and in his face (ie face real close to the tank). I always saw it as posturing baring the teeth to show get away or I will use them.

Re: GSP Chomper is he yawning ?
Mine does that too.
I always think that he's gulping a bit of water to shift his stomach content a bit.
He does manage to swallow bits of snail shells every now and again.
He seems to do it more on a full tummy. Kinda like how we loosen our belts after Thanksgiving dinner.

I've watched my GSP do this for a while now and figured I'd see if this is common lol. I think its amazing! Just more personality I suppose? Love it when my Gecko does it as well

All animals are cute when they yawn!
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...
