I don't have a protein skimmer, but I'm curious. Just how do you clean one and how often?

I found the easiest way to clean the cup is with a bottle brush.

I'll take it apart and clean the whole thing out every few months or so. My biological 'load' on my tank is almost laughable, so it doesn't really get that dirty. To clean the cup, I'll empty it with a turkey baster and scrub it down as needed.

I need to do water changes tomorrow and then again on friday, to prepare for my week long trip.

My biggest concern is that Bloat still isnt eating very well, so its going to be hard to stuff him before I leave. Huey on the other hand eats like a champ

I took off my second HOB filter which is a Tetra Advanced Power Filter 20-40 and am currently running only an Aqueon Quiet Flow 30. Pluto was spending almost all his time in one corner of his tank and only coming to the other side to eat, so I surmised that the Tetra filter was too noisy for him. I am considering putting another Aqueon Quiet Flow on to Replace the Tetra. I know that having 30 - 45 gal of filtration for a 30 gal tank should be enough, but I'm paranoid.
