I think it a reginal thing. A dock to me is on a lake or river and a pier is out into the ocean. And I call nothing a warf

I ask because I cant seem to find a definitive answer from google. I have been raised boating, and from what I have been taught is that a dock floats, moving with the tide/water level. A pier is fixed, and still is a pier despite what ever body of water it is it, either sea/ocean/lake etc, a wharf is a district of docks attached to piers.

Either way, can anyone clear this up, sorry if I overlooked the wikipedia on this, but I didnt see it.

the spelling may be what is catching you all up. I believe it is wharf you were looking for, and why you didn't find it in wikepedia:
