Re: Baby Fahaka Puffer not growing

Though he is only an inch, his growth can still be stunted based on living conditions. I don’t think a ten gallon is too small, but do you know what the LFS kept him in and fed him? He could also just be a slow grower, if he is eating fine.

Re: South American Puffer Goby Tankmates?

I’ve had mine get sucked towards the filter, but as long as they are healthy they should escape easily!

Re: Melafix with gourami

I agree. I knew all these things, but decided to take the chance before I had everything figured out. My plan was, ultimately, a 30g Amazon puffer tank. One thing I noticed upon her death was a fin so inflamed it didn’t even look like a fin anymore. I mostly just feel bad for the poor fish!

Re: Melafix with gourami

Unfortunately, as I found room for a 10g I had tucked away, I had no time to set it up as the poor puffer has already passed on...

Re: Does my Amazon puffer look sick?

Sadly, I woke up this morning to have found her dead. I only wish I had taken more care before the other fish attacked her. Even having her for just a week, the tank seemed to have become even more lively and fun with a puffer.

RIP Irma the Amazon pufferfish...

Melafix with gourami

Hi! I have an Amazon puffer who is not doing well! She’s been harassed by other fish and has an inflamed tail, and appears to be getting exponentially worse! I would melafix it, but there is a gourami in the tank, too, and I don’t have a backup tank for any of the fish. It is a 60 gallon tank. Shoul...

Re: South American Puffer Goby Tankmates?

I can’t think of a goby that’s 100% freshwater, though people have done it. There are fish called peacock gudgeons, which are roughly 2” and freshwater. Seeings you are keeping a SAP, it’s really tough to say how they’ll interact. Though they are called “community puffers”, they can still be quite r...

Re: what type of puffers are these, please help

A more common name, I found out, is banded toadfish. They don’t seem too common in the fish trade, so it’s cool that you came across one!

Re: Does my Amazon puffer look sick?

Thanks for the advice! I'm not confident she'll make it. I've been worried sick about her, and it seems as though separation isn't doing anything...
I had all the information for the puffer's care, but the stress factor never crossed my mind...

Re: Does my Amazon puffer look sick?

Update: Even away from harassment, and with the bloodworms, she is getting worse. The black marks on her belly and lack of color are really showing, and there is inflammation by the anal fin. She doesn’t even care about the worms, even when it is right in front of her, and all she does is lethargica...

What you have look like juveniles of those puffers. They do bare a resemblance to colomesus species, with those beaks!

Re: Does my Amazon puffer look sick?

Will do! Thanks a lot for the tips!
I’ll try to nurture her back to health. I’ll keep you posted on how she does. Thankfully, she fights against the current and filter, so I know she is still a strong swimmer. Not sure if there are IPs yet, but it seems more like a stress issue.

Re: Does my Amazon puffer look sick?

Update: She has made a home where the breeding kribs are, and seems to be the only fish they don’t chase away. They get along great. The only problem — she won’t eat a bloodworm if it hit her in the head (literally!) Same goes for snails! As she glass surfs, she bumps into a snail, inspects it, and ...

Re: What kind of puffer is this?

Looks to me like an orange saddle fugu puffer. I've seen them at various local fish stores. The only thing that disproves my claim is the lack of the orange saddle! That is interesting, though!
