Re: SAP Setup - Tons of Questions

I love your tank! What kinds of plants do you have in there? Any that would be suitable for my future setup?

The tank comes with a Fluval 305. I was planning on adding an Eheim 2215 but my boyfriend is set on an Eheim 2217. Boys... Sounds like he may be right.

Re: SAP Setup - Tons of Questions

For the final stocking list I'm thinking about: -4 SAPs -20 neons -6 cories -algae eater of some kind, possibly 2 albino bristlenoses if I can find them sexed OR since I already have a female I can buy 2 if they're both male then I can put one male in my current and the male and female in the big on...

Re: SAP Setup - Tons of Questions

Mhm, I think what I'll do is empty the tank and prepare the substrate as I won't have much time later (i.e. I really want to get started on this now, even if it is just laying dirt ;) ). I'll get the substrate all ready and then I'll soak it around Christmas so it's ready for when I'm fully moved in...

Re: SAP Setup - Tons of Questions

Phew, lots of reading. I think my brain is now fried. So, what I think I'll do is potting soil under a layer of gravel. Perhaps 1.5" of soil covered by a 2" layer of gravel. Hopefully that'll allow me to vacuum decently without bringing up soil? Looks like I may be getting the tank this we...

Re: SAP Setup - Tons of Questions

I looked at plant substrates in the store and they were very expensive. I think I've found the tank and it's 90gal (yay). 2W or less, sounds good. One website said that peat moss would be fine under your substrate for plants. I'm not sure how that would work with gravel though, sounds messy. I've so...

Re: SAP Setup - Tons of Questions

That's what I want my tank to look like once it's fully set up. I love heavily planted tanks and driftwood.

Re: SAP Setup - Tons of Questions

Thanks :) That's less heavily planted than I expected. I'm hoping I can find a lot of nice driftwood, I love driftwood. Is that a stick that you just put in? If so how did you treat it? Boiling? Boiling and baking? Or just baking? I'm not sure it I want to find wood outside and treat it or just buy ...

Re: SAP Setup - Tons of Questions

Cool and thank you. I think I'll take you up on that offer. Let me know when you have some extras as I've got a 20gal that could use some plants, just need a new light. I'm in Burlington about once a month.

I've got a bristlenose pleco in there. Should they be fine with her?

Re: SAP Setup - Tons of Questions

Thanks. I plan on doing this right the first time, I welcome all advice :) I had read those but read them again. The one suggests that cories may not be good tankmates. I read somewhere though that they were fine. Darn conflicting information. Right now we're looking at a decently priced 90gal (used...

Re: SAP Setup - Tons of Questions

Another one. I was reading some threads and they mentioned playground sand and pool filter sand. Any other cheap sand options? Actually, if anyone has any more information on plants and or some good websites I'd love it :) This will be my first time dealing with live plants and I am completely cluel...

SAP Setup - Tons of Questions

I’m looking at setting up a biotope. Doesn’t need to be exact but I’d like to stay pretty close. I’ve kept fish for years but haven’t done much for the past few years and I’ve forgotten everything ;) Sand or gravel? Which is better? Pros and cons? Price differences? How deep for each? What are some ...
