Very common for GSPs to get this. forget the meds--just give him pristene water (50% water changes weekly) & add Melafix. That'll clear it right up. Is he in brackish?

I always use the concentrated pool version (1tsp/50g). It was a 15g QT & I meant to just pour a little in (w/o measuring). I knew I put too much in there but thinking, it's "only natural" I wasn't worried. Everyon was dead within a few hours.

I had them together (along w/SAPs) in a 50g tank. The other puffers were bitten by the DPs. Nasty lil buggars!

If you "overdose" no worries, its not toxic at all.

I haven't feed any snails to my puffers in >1 year.

Some puffers are eternally grey. If he's aswimming & eating, not to worry for now.

The shells are too hard to crack. The action of getting the food out of the shell is enough to keep the teeth trimmed.

Never leave rotting food in your tank. Take uneaten food out after an hour. It will crash your system.

More than likely fish poop, not eggs.

Never seen anything like it.

You may use all the FW tests except ammonia.

Sarah, I'm sure your tank was cycled enough to handle the bioload of a few small juvie bettas. There is no way there is enough bacteria in there from the same bettas to support the bioload of 2 2" heavy mass puffers (or even 1). In a tank that small it would be impossible to have enough surface...

I try not to be too dramatic, just to the point. I've been keeping puffers for many years & am well aware of the bioload they create. Burned gills are not repairable. What are your water parameters in there?

If you don't do the water changes as I've instructed, they both could be dead within 24 hours.

It would be kinda cute--like keeping a kitten that always stays a kitten. Ya gonna keep this one then?
