Re: Dwarf Puffer Set-Up Ideas
Like Pufferpunk, I like HOBs (hang-on-back filters) for smaller tanks. Canisters are fantastic for big tanks, but a bit too much fuss and bother for a small one, at least for me. Aquaclears are my go-to HOB as well.

Re: Dwarf Puffer Set-Up Ideas
DPs don't seem to have any kind of requirements for substrate. Play sand would be fine, as is gravel. It basically comes down to your personal aesthetics. Doesn't matter to the DPs if the plants are live or artificial, they just appreciate having LOTS of them. Busy tanks keep them from getting bored...

Re: Breeding Dwarf Puffers
My DPs bred all on their own, without any help from me. Mine liked hidden areas to do their spawning -- they seemed to like a large hollow shipwreck ornament I had that was in three large pieces. My DPs are always happiest in very heavily decorated environments. I don't think they care if plants are...

Re: DP tankmates
Thanks for the input, I think I'll add more hiding places then try amano shrimp. Also, I can't help but find this adorable. Occasionally I'll see my male (Andy) watching my danios, and sometimes he'll chase them a little bit (without actually catching them) then turn and look at me to see if I caug...

Re: My predatory tank
Makes me sad. The OP's arowana already exhibits OCD-like behavior, just pacing back and forth. I hate to picture it in a few months, when it's even larger...

Re: Dwarf puffer help
My sister wants to get a tank mate to go with Peanut, is this possible? Not in the size bowl you have currently. Sorry. :( To have two, you need a minimum of 10 gallons US, and I recommend going even larger than that to minimize aggression and stress levels. Remember, we're not just trying to keep ...

Been a Prime user for years. With a stink like that, it has to be good.

I'm sure you're already aware of this, but your puffer Stooges (love the names!) will need a much bigger tank when they grow up.

Re: are pea puffers really that messy?
My DPs consistently have the dirtiest tank in the house (and I keep fancy goldfish!). I love TheStig's description of them as college dudes sharing an apartment. So true! Even my F8s weren't this messy.

Re: 2.5 Gallon for 3 Dwarf Puffers
How long do you guys think I can keep them in this current state? Even if I buy and setup the 10 gallon tank it may take weeks for it to cycle right? Better by far to have them in an uncycled 10 gallon than in a (probably not cycled anyway) 2.5 gallon with the constant stress of overcrowding and to...

Re: *UPDATE* Converting to dwarf puffers!
Is de-worming necessary if the DPs don't show any symptoms? Are there any side affects to using prazipro? I just got 3 myself and I'm wondering if I should be doing this as well. PraziPro is a relatively mild medication, and not generally harmful or prone to causing side effects. That said, it's yo...

Just make sure your DPs are tank bred. My LFS had to call the supplier for me to find out, and they're not wild caught.hadla wrote:Dps are on it

Re: Dps don't seem interested in snails
If you can find them at an aquatic store near you, try live blackworms -- I've never seen a DP refuse those yet! Longtime forum member and ultimate puffer mentor RTR reared his DPs almost exclusively on live blackworms and swears by them for growth and development.
