Re: Any ideas why my puffers died?

Are danio's brackish water fish? if you're going to keep brackish water fish then you'll need a hydrometer to be able to accurately judge the salinity - heaped/level tablespoon, how big are the salt crystals? Was the sea salt marine salt bought after advise from the LFS? Some brands are better than ...

Has he started eating yet?
If not; have you tried live foods like brine shrimp or glassworm just to fatten him up a bit? the biting and spitting out sounds like my waspfish when he's snapped at a frozen bloodworm and realised that its not wriggling.

Re: bumblebee goby differnece(Fresh/Brackish)

if you're only keeping figure 8's and bumblebees then you don't have to take the salinity to 1.008, most people on this forum seem to recommend 1.005

Re: Algae infestation

"Unfortunately the tank is in my bedroom. Might be hard to black it out." Your ammonia spike may have sparked the algae growth I suppose, for the blackout you could wrap black bin bags around the tank and selotape them together? You could get a couple of Nerite snails they absolutely devou...

Re: Algae infestation

here's what I've said in another thread about hair algae: According to things that i've read about hair algae is that relatively high levels of ammonia or iron or lack of CO2 or combinations of all 3 can cause it. the forum below has many good articles on algae identification and how to combat it: h...

Ah well, I thought that that might be the answer. I now have a challenge to come up with a hardscape that I will be happy with - all the harder since I haven't got an artistic bone in my body!

Re: Is there a plant that a Scat won't eat?

You might want to PM our Mentor nmonks on this one. Have you looked over his BW plant list? I'll try that thanks. I've read his list and others and i'm working through them slowly but all of the plants that I have to remove from the scat tank go into the puffer tank and it's probably at its limit n...

Re: Plants

Many planted tank people say that your filter should should change the whole tank water 10x per hour or they install a powerhead to make sure that the CO2 gets everywhere around the tank. So you could try doing that or maybe reduce the amount of iron tabs that you are using to see if that helps. I w...

Re: FW tank into a BW tank

You're freshwater fish will not be able to cope with the salt water. Most of the existing brackish water bacteria on the substrate, filter and decor will die off when moved from SG 1.010 into the freshwater, but i presume that some will survive which will reduce the cycle time, but the tank will sti...

Attempted Murder!! mudskipper vs fiddler crab

When we bought our fiddler crabs about 6 months ago we had 2 Periophthalmus barbarus mudskippers and we asked our lfs brackish expert whether they would be compatible, of course he said yes and we stupidly thought that it might work out. We had previously bought another tank so that we could split t...
