Re: Dwarf Puffers & Bumblebee Catfish?
A bumblebee catfish is very different from a goby. Also, just because there is no obvious aggression / predatory behaviours the first day, or even the first week, doesn't mean everyone in the tank is in the clear. Settling in, maturity, etc, are important factors to consider in fish behaviour. Also,...

Re: NLS Algae Gel / Repashy Super Green
How funny you mentioned it cos I considered adding a second female to the tank a while ago. The last shipment of DPs to my LFS could be sexed, so it had me thinking. But since it is a 10 gallon, I decided against it after sitting on the thought for a while. What happened was, that male suddenly esca...

Re: Dp turning white on his tail.
Oh, the poor guy... :-( I hope you were able to start treatment on him immediately, as suggested by PufferPunk. I want him to pull through. :-( I know the article for treating IPs could be confusing to beginners. I know I did. I used PraziPro, and marinated thawed bloodworms in some solution for sev...

Re: Dwarf Puffers
I have a male & female in a 10 gallon that is heavily decorated with live & fake plants, driftwood, rocks & terra cotta pots. It is necessary because my male is quite agro when he isn't obnoxiously courting the female. The scaping helps alleviate the male's testosterone by 1) breaks line...

Re: Stocking density advice
My suggestion to you adding Otos is, since you do not have an established tank, to supplement them with blanched veggies since there won't be sufficient algae to sustain all 5 of them. They are voracious algae eaters, and a 51 litre tank probably will not provide enough algae for 5 of the little guy...

Re: Stocking density advice
Welcome! If I am not mistaken, while bumblebee gobies spawn in fresh water, they do best in brackish waters. I was hoping to add them to my tank, but changed my mind after reading up on them. As for stocking density, check out aqadvisor.com It takes tank size and filter into account when listing you...

Re: Feeding Pea Puffers in a community tank
What a brilliant idea of feeding snails! I am stealing it. That way, the carnage is contained and I don't have to worry about missing any empty snails with my turkey baster. Thanks for sharing, and welcome to TPF! I love DPs!

Re: NLS Algae Gel / Repashy Super Green
They have round bellies, and are usually busy sucking on the tank, driftwood, gravel, plants and blanched zuke/cucumber. I tried spinach and kale, but they ignored them. They are also constantly pooping. O_o They seem to be active and healthy, so keeping my fingers crossed that I won't lose either o...

NLS Algae Gel / Repashy Super Green
Hi, I picked up 2 Otos last week and they made short work on the algae in my tank. I have also been supplementing them with blanched veggies so they don't starve. They are super cute, but I worry about losing them after reading about their mortality rates online. There were many write-ups about peop...

Re: Overfeeding Puffers
Haha! Isn't it just amazing how they can tell time? It stumps me. Mine wld nose me, then sit in front of the kitchen, and just stare at me. My older dog has tricked me into feeding her a second breakfast, that stinker. I didn't realize my husband fed her before he went out. She scored that day, but ...

Re: Overfeeding Puffers
This is such an important PSA and discussion for Puffer owners. Thanks for starting it, PP. Speaking as a n00b in fish keeping, I didn't think about obesity and the importance of diet n enrichment in fish, just because. Yet, I am adamant about keeping my working GSDs lean and muscular, with a natura...

Size doesn't matter for a DP
A snail is a snail is a snail... to a DP. Noticed a little algae on my driftwood, did a little reading on non-Puffer sites. Figured what harm could there be throwing my second largest Ramshorn from my breeding tank into the main one to get started on it before it became a real issue. Now, this snail...

What soulful eyes!
So glad he is thriving under your care. Not many people will take that risk of rescuing a fish, because of what it usually means. Great beginning for this guy! Thanks for the update.

Re: My Pea Puffer ATE a tiny white worm! Prazi her, pronto?!
Thanks for the confirmation, Mike. I gravel vac the HECK out of my tank the next day, and did a 60% WC. I think it took care of the problem, because I have not seen any since. No idea how they appeared because I am like clockwork when it comes to tank maintenance (just did my routine WC & gravel...
