Re: Hi! Getting back into puffer keeping
I've not kept GSPs so I cannot directly compare them to DPs. Our 3 dwarf puffers do come to watch us when we peek in to the tank. They also follow my husband's hand around when it is feeding time, up and down the glass. He feeds them frozen blood worms from his fingers, and they are fearless about c...

Re: Puffer not interested in food
I recommend watching some quick YouTube videos of folks trimming puffers' teeth. The best one I found was this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_3dQwf9kaY called Trimming Green Spotted Puffer's Teeth. The video is clear and shows the whole process, along with narration that is easy to follow. I...

Re: Vacation Options
Not sure if this is a noob suggestion, but could you stock your puffer's tank with some live munchies like ghost shrimp prior to going away? So they MAY have some food running around that they can hunt and eat during your absence?

Re: Dwarf puffer help
You may want to tuck a couple little shoots of val in around the bottom of the driftwood. Sometimes it looks quite natural brushing against pieces of tall rock or wood

Re: Tank mates for Dwarf Puffers :)
Thank you all for your replies :) Ok, so no goby - can't believe the folks in the GTA forum have not pointed out the incompatibility of DPs and gobies to the members talking about that pairing. Once my account is 'approved' (they are SO slow to do that, and I cannot post yet) I will put something in...

Just rescaped the bowl I'll post pictures when its settled. Please say anything that could be improved. It may look darker than it should be because there's tannins in the water from the previous piece of wood.
Can't wait to see the new layout ^_^

Tank mates for Dwarf Puffers :)
Hi all, We have a 20 G planted tank with 3 dwarf puffers in it and we have been thinking about adding a tank mate or mates... ATM the puffers have 3 Amano shrimp for company, but we were wondering if we could add a different, fishy tank mate, or if we should let our trio of DPs keep the tank to them...

I shall continue to demonstrate my status as Forever Noob when it comes to aquaria.
My latest dumb question, spurred by this thread - what is a 'tank terrace'? o.O

Re: Dwarf puffer help
Maybe glass-surfing is part of his hunting routine?
Our dwarf puffers never stop cruising for snails, even when stuffed full of blood worms. Surfing might be your little guy's way of looking for targets

My husband feeds our dwarf puffers by hand (while I take blurry pictures ).
Not sure if that counts, but they do play 'Tug-of-war' with the bloodworms...

Re: How do you guys measure your puffers?
Thanks, that's a great idea! I waited for them to swim by a rock they were roughly the same size as, then measured the rock. But since they swim up to the top when I open it (since they think anything, including a rock, is food), I was actually able to hold it right along them and get an even more ...

Re: How do you guys measure your puffers?
I have never measured my dwarf puffers, I am content to just say they are 'little' guys :) When measuring animals in a colony, or a home tank, however, you can use background landmarks of a known length to get a rough measurement. If you have a decoration in your tank which is 6 inches long, wait fo...

Re: REQ: Suggestions to keep puffs from becoming bored
I am still new to puffers, and have not ventured out past the freshwater -dwarf puffer stage, but I am reading about other puffers and this thread made me curious. The list of puffers you gave included a Green Spotted Puffer. I am confused, or ignorant, or maybe both :). Is a GSP freshwater, brackis...

All boys club - is this a problem for DPs?
Hi Puffer Forum ^_^ About a month ago my husband and I added 3 dwarf puffers to an established 20 G freshwater tank. The puffers now share the space with 3 Amano shrimp and 2 Gold Algae Eaters. When we bought the puffers we asked the LFS clerk for 2 females and 1 male, or 3 females. He scooped out 3...
