Re: Tank updates - puffers & tankmates
It's been a while since I last updated. I thought I'd post about Julia's recent adventure. I noticed she was hiding in the rocks more & soon realized she was a bit long in the tooth, particularly in one lower corner. It couldn't be put off & I knew it was time for some dental work. I didn't ...

Re: Tank updates - puffers & tankmates
My SW tank turned 1yr old earlier this month :D It's been a blast. I'm starting to daydream about a larger tank (120) and a sump, but I don't know if I would be testing the patience of my spouse too much at this point. Anyway, always nice to dream... I really wish I could take better pictures than m...

Re: clean up crew recomendations for a gsp tank
They sure do like to hunt, that's for sure. My tank has a sizeable population of the bigger amphipods, and both the GSPs and the long nose hawkfish love to hunt them. When the daylights go off, they all hunt intently around the rockwork, which seems to be a great way to keep them out of trouble. I'v...

Re: clean up crew recomendations for a gsp tank
I've had success with those great big turbo snails. I have an electric blue hermit that does incredible cleaning - this is the great big one, not the little blue ones. My guys also totally ignore the tuxedo urchin who is excellent. They do still occasionally check out the 2 smaller hermits. They sho...

Re: current orbit marine led 36 to 48.....enough for a 33G?
I'm pretty happy with my SB Reef lights. The price is quite reasonable too. I've tried out a couple of SPS and they've shown good growth and colour.

Re: Tank updates - puffers & tankmates
Yes, definitely the mandarin is not a fish you add on a whim and I did a lot of research. My understanding is that my tank is the minimum size for one, and needs to be rock heavy with consideration given to the maturity and pod population. Also no other pod eaters like wrasses. I've added from two p...

Re: Tank updates - puffers & tankmates
So I took the plunge & got a mandarin. I was advised it's best to get one just freshly arrived, and when I saw this amazing, full-of-beans male who was just the right size, I couldn't resist. I got a bag of Rod's Pods to supplement my own population (altho I still scan the rocks/glass obsessivel...

Re: Tank updates - puffers & tankmates
So Julia probably got enough of the Prazipro in because she looks a lot better. Her tummy is nicely rounded even before eating. Diddy is way beefier (he's muscular!) and is pushy at feeding time so I've made sure she gets her fair share (easy to control as they eat right off the chopsticks) image.jp...

Re: 40G Breeder Valentini Tank
I vote for a long-nose hawk (but I'm biased ). My Fergus (may he swim in peace) was very fast & capable of competing for food, but without any aggression issues. I really miss him & would love to find another one

Re: Tank updates - puffers & tankmates
I had a little cyano?dino? issue, not sure which. Looked like dino but wasn't killing anything. I did a lights out but mostly credit my CUC, especially the urchin & conches who are cleaning machines. I also started vacuuming my sand with the siphon and it's done wonders. It's that special grade ...

Re: Tank updates - puffers & tankmates
Aaaghhhhh! Fergus, my long nose hawk, jumped out of the tank!! I always count the fish when I pass the tank & when I didn't see him, I checked the floor and to my horror, there he was all dried up already :crying2: I have very tight fitting egg crate on top, but he must have jumped out right aft...

Re: Clean Up Crew
I have 2 large turbos, tuxedo urchin & electric blue leg hermit that have been fantastic on rocks. Fighting conch & orange lip conches are fantastic cleaning sand & fun to watch too (very quick to duck eyes etc inside at approach of any fish so they've been safe from puffers so far. Thei...

Re: Tank updates - puffers & tankmates
No, unfortunately it's my fave rock that is a cool crescent shape that is perfect as the top to my rockscape. They are very happy & stay snuggled up together, darn them. They are so close I'd be afraid to try to get a chisel between them anyway. I searched for Prazipro dosing info but just wante...
