He needs more crunch in his diet. Start breeding ramshorn snails, it's super easy and very helpful.

I would break that down to 3 smaller changes, less fluctuation in water chemistry This is a great advice. I used to think that changing so much water at once wouldn't matter. I was wrong though. I used to change 80-90% on an eel tank I have but every time I did that, I'd have an ammonia spike. I no...

Don't use the clove oil. You need a product called tricaine methanesulfonate (also referred to as MS222) also sometimes sold as Tranquil or Finquil

Re: My GSP Aquarium Update
They were all roughly 1 inch when I got them. Had a big growth spurt during the summer when they went full Marine but have now slowed a bit. Sounds about right. I'm wondering are they gonna reach the full 6 inches. It seems so rare you hear about a full grown GSP these days. I think that's due to t...

I wanna get a 125 or 150 gallon tank for them eventually.
Have they grown much since you got them?

Look in to SAPs (South American Puffers.) They're FW. I guess you could do a singleton, but they enjoy company of other SAPs. Singletons aren't actually good because they don't do well unless in groups. There's like a 3% chance a singleton would do okay, but these puffers are group puffers. They ar...

Re: Newbie GSP checklist and questions
Great idea! That seems like the most logical way. To set up full marine, I would need Protein skimmer live rock Sand power head salt What size power head should I be looking at? Should I do 2 at 450-500gph each? Or should they both combine to be about 500 gph (250 gph per power head) What size powe...

Rather you want freshwater, brackish, or marine really sets up the choices you have. So, what is your tank prepared for, or what do you want to prepare it for?

I've read about others doing this. A lot of them attach it to their sump. Glad to hear it's working out for you.

Re: Newbie GSP checklist and questions
Why not just start out marine, and drip acclimate the puffer to marine conditions? This is a perfectly safe method and you could avoid ever purchasing a canister filter and only using it a few months. If you just get everything you need for the marine tank, and set it up as such you will avoid havin...

However, if that picture is AFTER the teeth trim, then trim some more lol.

Yes it does. I was just clarifying that if the 10 gallon WAS cycled, and she added the stuff from it to the new tank, then the new tank would be cycled.I.Puff.Too wrote:@Nuclear: That depends if the 10G was actually cycled.
Sorry if I mislead anyone. =]

Re: Newbie with 3 tanks but need advice quickly......
Ideally you'd like to place puffers in a fully cycled tank, however it's more important to get them out of the 10G tank and into that 75. Make sure you match the salinity levels and add all substrate, decor and the old filter as others have stated. Although the tank isn't cycled there is plenty of ...

Re: 2 questions
Growth rate generally depends on what you're feeding. Make sure you're giving them a food with enough calcium. Mine seem to grow a bit slower. Like, it takes them around a month to get the size of a GSP eye. I wouldn't recommend breeding snails with anything because whatever else is in the tank gene...
