Re: Feeding snail more often a bad thing???

Snails are almost all I feed my F8s. If the snails are to big just crush them and let the puff chew the fleash and meat.

Re: My GSP tank

Adding a backing would upgrade the appearance by hiding the cords. That was my very first thought. I think fish feel mor comfortable with a background too. And spend a few dollars for some background adhesive. The difference over just taping it on is night and day. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/pro...

Re: GSP Death

1.022 salinity, I did the changes in a large tub as I've done for the past 5 years of keeping him, salinity and temperature always matched with the tank water. I use instant ocean salt and big al's declorinator. Sounds good. I just wondered if the salt wasn't completely dissolved, but you know how ...

What was the SG and how did you mix the new water change water for the changes?

Re: F8 Upgrade, need some suggestions.

Good question about the water changes, ATM I use a 5g bucket, but that's not gonna cut it for 29g obviously. I was thinking I getting a 25g tub from Walmart, but I'm unsure if it's safe plastic. At $5, it seem too good to be true, and I know some plastics (particularly cheap ones) can be poisonous....

Re: F8 Upgrade, need some suggestions.

My first/original F8 was/is full grown and never grew any more. He's as big as any online pic. Two years ago I adopted 3 juvis(1.5-2") from this forum and wound up keeping one in a 15g. I moved him to a 46g with some mollies and he showed a noticible growth spurt. My guess is once you introduce...

Re: F8 Upgrade, need some suggestions.

A 304 is perfect for a 29g. I've had a 404 on my F8's 46g then 55g for a few years. I wouldn't add a HOB because the BBGs don't like tons of current. In my 404 filters I run pre-filter media in the first basket. In other filters I run a layer before the sponge media. I've noticed a very significant ...

Re: Quick Filtration Question

Do it now or eventually you can cut the charcoal out and just rinse the pad. Cut out the thin slits but leave the main ribs on the cartridge. Be sure not to cut through the filter pad in the process.

Re: Water Changer Questions (aqueon/python)

Personally see no need to shorten... Flow is the only reason I'd recommend it. Longer hose will take a little longer to both fill (depending on home water flow/pressure) and draining. It depends on how much longer we are talking. A few extra feet would be unnoticiable...But 10 extra might be enough...

Re: Breeding snails

A 5g bucket works fine. A small HOB or sponge filter will be great. A heater is optional but it will speed up production. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk168/almostapathetic/Fish/DSCI0218_zps184822df.jpg Add a little decor to give them extra space to lay eggs. I keep a few little 2oz dressing c...

Re: Water Changer Questions (aqueon/python)

Buy the longer and shorten it to your needs. And get the Pytyhon...I've own/owned both and the Python wins by leaps and bounds. Spend the extra now, so you don't need to know why you need to spend the exrtra now..

Re: size of ramshorns for DPs

I crush my rams with forcepts in the ram tank to shake off the shell. Then I cup and wiggle the meat in the DP tank to get their attention and drop it for eager consumption.

I keep black khuhlis in the same tank and they looove what isn't eaten by the DPs.
